TOGAF Certification Program

The TOGAF certification program objective is to make certification available to individuals who have knowledge and understanding of the TOGAF 9 standard.

There are two levels to certification, denoted Level 1 and Level 2. Level 2 contains the learning requirements for Level 1.

Certification to Level 1 is known as TOGAF 9 Foundation.

To provide validation that the candidate has gained knowledge of the TOGAF terminology, structure, and basic concepts, and understands the core principles of Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF standard.

Certification to Level 2 is known as TOGAF 9 Certified.

To provide validation that in addition to knowledge and comprehension, the candidate is able to analyze and apply knowledge of the TOGAF standard.

The Open Group also provides a certification path direct to Level 2 (TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and Part 2) leads only to TOGAF Certified.

The Open Group also provides a credentials for individuals who have previously achieved the TOGAF 9.1 Certified qualification. This is known as the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential program.

TOGAF Foundation 9.2 – Certification

In this post, I’m going to explain about the TOGAF Foundation (Level 1) 9.2 certification by The Open Group. Firstly, this is a certification program not the credential program. Secondly, certification is open to all applicants – there is no requirement for any previous certification. Thirdly, the duration of certification is indefinite.

In conclusion, the certification is available to individuals who wish to demonstrate they attained the required knowledge and understanding of the TOGAF standard 9.2

Purpose

The purpose of the TOGAF 9 Level 1, known as TOGAF 9 Foundation, is to provide validation that the candidate has gained an acceptable level of knowledge of the terminology, structure, and basic concepts of TOGAF 9, and understand the core principles of enterprise architecture and TOGAF.

Who can earn TOGAF 9 Foundation certification?

  • Individuals who require a basic understanding of the TOGAF 9 standard
  • Professionals who are working in roles associated with an architecture project such as those responsible for planning, execution, development, delivery, and operation
  • Architects who are looking for a first introduction to the TOGAF 9 standard
  • Architects who want to achieve Level 2 certification in a stepwise approach

What are the Assessment Criteria?

The TOGAF 9 Part 1 examination is the assessment for the TOGAF 9 Foundation certification. This examination comprises 40 questions in simple multiple-choice format, covering the Level 1 learning outcomes (see the section below for detail). The pass mark is 55% (22 or more questions out of a maximum of 40).

What does the TOGAF Foundation certification cover?

To achieve certification to the TOGAF 9 Foundation Body of Knowledge, Candidates must complete the 13 Level 1 Learning Units and pass the TOGAF 9 Part 1 examination.

·        The basic concepts of Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF standard

·        The core concepts of the TOGAF 9 standard

·        The key terminology of the TOGAF 9 standard

·        The ADM cycle and the objectives of each phase, and how to adapt and scope the ADM

·        The concept of the Enterprise Continuum; its purpose and constituent parts

·        How each of the ADM phases contributes to the success of Enterprise Architecture

·        The ADM guidelines and techniques

·        How Architecture Governance contributes to the Architecture Development Cycle

·        The concepts of views and viewpoints and their role in communicating with stakeholders

·        The concept of building blocks

·        The key deliverables of the ADM cycle

·        The TOGAF reference models

·        The TOGAF certification program

What is required to earn the TOGAF Foundation certification?

To be eligible for the certification individuals are required pass the assessment.

Candidates who fail an examination are not allowed to re-take any examination again within that Program for a period of one (1) month

TOGAF Business Architecture Level 1

In this post, I’m going to explain about the new TOGAF Business Architecture L1 credential announced by The Open Group in April 2019. Firstly, this is a specialization-based credential for the professionals, who require an understanding of Business Architecture based on the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2. Secondly, there are no prerequisites to earn this credential.

Introduction

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF®) Standard, a standard of The Open Group, is the open Enterprise Architecture standard used by the world's leading organisations and maintained by members of the Open Group.

In April 2019, the new TOGAF Business Architecture Level 1 credential was introduced by the Open Group. This is a specialization credential.

It demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Business Modelling, Business Capabilities, Business Scenarios, Information Mapping, and Value Streams and how to apply them in development of a Business Architecture based on the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2. This credential leads to an Open Badge.

Purpose

The purpose of the TOGAF Business Architecture Level 1 credential is to provide validation that individuals have knowledge and understanding of Business Modelling, Business Capabilities, TOGAF Business Scenarios, Information Mapping, and Value Streams and how to apply them in development of a Business Architecture based on the TOGAF® Standard, Version 9.2.

Who can earn TOGAF Business Architecture L1 credential?

·            Individuals who require an understanding of Business Architecture based on the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2.

·            Professionals who are working in roles associated with developing a Business Architecture such as those responsible for business planning

·            Architects who want to add a specialization to their existing TOGAF Certification.

·            Trainers wishing to deliver TOGAF Business Architecture Level 1 Accredited Training Courses      

Exam

Candidates are required to have passed the TOGAF Business Architecture L1 assessment. The assessment consists of 30 questions in a simple multiple-choice format with a 60% pass mark (18/30)

What does the TOGAF Business Architecture L1 credential cover?

To earn this credential Candidates must complete all Learning Units defined below and successfully pass the TOGAF Business Architecture L1 Assessment.

The topic of Business Modelling and how it relates to Enterprise Architecture within a TOGAF context

·            The concept of Business Capabilities and how they can be modelled.

·            Value Streams and value stream mapping

·            Information Mapping

·            How to apply the TOGAF Business Scenario method

·            How a Business Architecture can be developed with the TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM)

What is required to earn the TOGAF Business Architecture L1 credential?

The path to achieve this credential is to complete the Learning Units defined in the Conformance Requirements document and to obtain a pass result for the Indicator of Compliance.

Firstly, this is the refreshed knowledge-based credential only meant for professionals, who wish to upgrade their knowledge to the updated TOGAF standard version 9.2. Secondly, applicants are required to be TOGAF 9 Certified (TOGAF 9 Level 2).

Introduction

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF®) Standard, a standard of The Open Group, is the open Enterprise Architecture standard used by the world's leading organisations and maintained by members of the Open Group.

In April 2018, the updated version of the TOGAF 9.2 standard was introduced. Individuals who achieved TOGAF 9 Certification against either version 9 or 9.1 can update their knowledge to 9.2 with the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential.

TOGAF Essentials 2018 is a Refreshed Knowledge credential.

Purpose

The purpose of the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential is to provide validation that individuals who have earned the credential have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the changes introduced to the TOGAF Body of Knowledge in 2018.

The TOGAF Body of Knowledge includes the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2 and the TOGAF Library.

Who can earn TOGAF Essential credential?

Individuals who are already TOGAF 9 Certified (TOGAF 9 Level 2) and who wish to show they have up-to-date knowledge of the 2018 version of the TOGAF Body of Knowledge.

Individuals who are trainers delivering Accredited Training Courses based on the TOGAF Standard, Version 9.2.

Candidates are required to complete at least three (3) hours training at an Accredited Training Course on the subject.

What is required to earn the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential?

To be eligible for the credential individuals are required to be TOGAF 9 Certified (TOGAF 9 Level 2). The credential is only awarded by completing a mandatory training element followed by an assessment.

Training A minimum of three (3) hours training on the subject is required

Upon satisfactory completion of the training element, Accredited Training Course providers submit Candidates details (candidate ID) to The Open Group, who will then issue an invitation to the Candidate to take the assessment.

Candidates are required to have passed the TOGAF Essentials 2018 assessment. The assessment consists of 20 questions in a simple multiple-choice format with a 75% pass mark (15/20).

Unit 1: Structural changes (4 Questions) 20%

Unit 2: Business Architecture (4 Questions) 20%

Unit 3: 40210 Alignment (2 Questions) 10%

Unit 4: TOGAF Content Framework(3 Questions) 15%

Unit 5: Security (3 Questions) 15%

Unit 6: Other Changes (2 Questions) 10%

Unit 7: Definitions (2 Questions) 10%

What if I fail the assessment?

The system will allow 2 retakes automatically. If you fail three times and want a retake an administration fee to be paid.

 

Assessment Delivery

In order to take the assessment, the candidate can take assessment from home or office online using supported browsers include recent versions of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge. Please note that Mozilla Firefox is not currently supported.

Individuals who have earned this credential are recommended to consider additional credentials related to contents of the TOGAF Library in The Open Group Credentials Program.
