TOGAF Certification Program

The TOGAF certification program objective is to make certification available to individuals who have knowledge and understanding of the TOGAF 9 standard.

There are two levels to certification, denoted Level 1 and Level 2. Level 2 contains the learning requirements for Level 1.

Certification to Level 1 is known as TOGAF 9 Foundation.

To provide validation that the candidate has gained knowledge of the TOGAF terminology, structure, and basic concepts, and understands the core principles of Enterprise Architecture and the TOGAF standard.

Certification to Level 2 is known as TOGAF 9 Certified.

To provide validation that in addition to knowledge and comprehension, the candidate is able to analyze and apply knowledge of the TOGAF standard.

Certification Level   Certification Label   Learning Units

Level 1                                   TOGAF 9 Foundation          13 Learning Units

Level 2                                   TOGAF 9 Certified               Level 1 + 26 Learning Units

The Open Group also provides a certification path direct to Level 2 (TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and Part 2) leads only to TOGAF Certified.

The Open Group Credentials

In this post, I’m going to explain about the new credentials announced by The Open Group. Firstly, there are two types of credentials, refreshed knowledge-based credential and Specializations based credential. Secondly, both credentials have their respective study paths.

Introduction

Credentials are an addition to The Open Group Certification program for small amounts of learning (3 hours upwards). They lead to the award of an Open Badge. Credentials are being developed for a number of topic areas. Initially, knowledge-based credentials are being developed. In the future, it will be possible to build certifications from related sets of credentials.

There are currently two credential types:

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF®) Standard, a standard of The Open Group, is the open Enterprise Architecture standard used by the world's leading organisations and maintained by members of the Open Group.

In April 2018, the updated version of the TOGAF 9.2 standard was introduced. Individuals who achieved TOGAF 9 Certification against either version 9 or 9.1 can update their knowledge to 9.2 with the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential.

The path to achieve these credentials is to complete the Learning Units defined in the Conformance Requirements document and to obtain a pass result for the Indicator of Compliance.

The duration of this credential is indefinite – this credential is to a given version of the Body of Knowledge and does not expire, so there are no renewal requirements.
